December 5 Meeting:

The doors will open at 6:00 for members to gather and hang out with one another.  The meeting will formally begin at 6:30 with a review of Guild business and the usual Show-N-Tell event.   Bring your favorite object, problem or observation.   At approximately 7:15 the in-person presentation by Cody Hanson will begin with Q&A encouraged throughout.

Presentation: Exploring Finishes

Cody Hanson (OWWG Member) will provide a survey of Stains, Sealers, and Solvents. He'll go over a little history about each one, common applications and uses, and recommended uses today. Cody encourages any questions/comments people may have and will lead discussion about them.   He will bring some classic product examples as well as a sample or two with finishes/stains applied and, time permitting, will discuss specific brands he has found to be reliable in his own experience.  Attached are a couple photos on the some of the topics we'll cover.

Cody comes from a looong line of highly skilled woodworkers.  As he says, "I started really paying attention to finishing after college when I didn't have space or money to build things, and I would salvage older pieces and restore them. I discovered I really enjoy the variance and final aspects of finishing. Being a history nerd, I really enjoy the huge amount of history belonging to various stains and sealers, and tapping into older source material to keep older methods and techniques alive."
